the color pink actually takes its name from a flower!  pinks, from the genus dianthus, in turn derive their name from the verb “pink,” meaning to decorate with a perforated or punched pattern, because of the frilly edge of their petals.  possibly due to this association with the decorative, the color pink has long been connected with femininity.   audrey hepburn once said, “i believe in pink,” affirming the connection between women, glamour, and the color, and since the 1950s it has been assigned to female babies.  pink is also the internationally recognized color for the breast cancer awareness ribbon, due to its symbolic association with women.  giving someone a pink rose may convey gratitude, while a pink carnation will say “you are always on my mind.”  but it all cases, pink flowers represent affection and love…
